Drawing-up the business plan for a ‘Shariah-compliant Family Office' based on an open architecture. Putting together in a single proposition Islamic alternative investing, estate planning for effective intergenerational transfer, and philanthropy.
The investment opportunities sought after were direct, medium to long term strategic investments, with an expected above-average rate of return and aiming at capital preservation and assets transfer to the next generation. They were high-quality, uncorrelated alpha opportunities belonging to the investment category generally known as `alternative investing'. The sectors included industrial, manufacturing, telecommunication, energy, healthcare, agricultural and real estate.
Philanthropy plays an important role in the lives of most members of Muslim families but if charitable giving is to prove fulfilling and a way to bind the family together across generations, it has to be pursued professionally, pro-actively and with a focus on issues that resonate with family members.
