Islamic finance interacts with jurisdictions around the globe that belong to different cultures and have legal and regulatory frameworks far apart. At the same time, its value proposition is intertwined with a variety of domains such as ethicality in finance, the role pf philanthropy, sustainable development, seigniorage, women in finance, quality of food, etc. that are widely debated in Western societies.
Islamic political economy and finance can participate to the economic, societal and environmental debates and make an original contribution by putting at work their centuries-old experiences and practical wisdom. At the same time, Islamic finance can benefit from current developments in Western thought in those domains where it is lagging its conventional counterparts.
