This has been the first study on Islamic finance and environmental sustainability ever carried out in an Islamic country
The survey aimed to evaluate the 'Certificates of Emission Reduction' (CERs) potential of the four major Syrian landfills of Damascus, Homs, Ladakie and Alep and to develop Shariah-compliant financial products linked to the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism
A secondary goal of this project was the establishment of an operational relationship between Banca INTESA, ENDESA and the Siryan Ministry of the environment
